Amphinicy Technologies has developed Blink - next-gen software modem to enable anyone interested in Earth observation and space science to command own satellite and receive its payload data in real time - reliably, efficiently and conveniently. Blink AMI is a distribution of Blink Modem which allows operators flexible use of AWS Ground Station network. They can start and stop modem instances and other related infrastructure only when needed, minimizing cost and maximizing scalability.
Blink is a real-time, high data rate, software satellite modem designed to run on standard COTS servers. It moves digital signal processing from high-maintenance single-purpose hardware to software. It can run on bare metal (e.g., a standard server or laptop) or virtual/cloud environments. Blink can bring previously impossible missions to life and make missions generally easier to manage, more productive and cheaper to set up and evolve.

You pay an hourly software usage rate for running the Blink software modem. This charge covers the modem software itself and applies for each hour it runs. These names identify which hardware the software can run on, not separate pricing tiers. You choose the instance type that fits your workload. The Amazon EC2 instance is billed separately by AWS as its own infrastructure cost, on top of the modem software charge.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Am I charged the software fee when the instance running the modem is stopped?
The software fee applies only while the Blink software modem runs. Stopped or terminated instances accrue no modem software charge, since billing is tied to actual runtime hours. Note that a stopped instance may still incur AWS storage fees for its attached volumes, billed separately by AWS.
Does the hourly software rate differ depending on which EC2 instance type I choose?
The listed dimensions name the supported EC2 GPU instance types across the g4dn, g5, p3, p3dn, p4d, and p5 families. They identify compatible hardware, not separate software price tiers. Your AWS infrastructure cost varies by instance type, but that portion is billed by AWS, separate from Amphinicy's modem software charge.
How does the billed hour work if I only run the modem for part of an hour?
The modem software charge accrues per hour the Blink software runs. Billing follows your actual runtime on the chosen EC2 instance. When the modem is active, the hourly software rate applies; when it stops, the charge stops. The EC2 compute cost is metered and billed separately by AWS.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
